1) Can you tell us a little about your wedding celebrant services? How did you get started in the wedding industry?
I started my career as a Celebrant in 2008. I worked in the Banking Industry for 17 years and had left to raise a family. I was always keen to find a career in which I could work from home so I could be there for my children when they needed me. When I found an ad in my local paper advertising for a Celebrants course, I knew straight away I’d found the perfect career for me.
As a celebrant I find it extremely important to make sure every couple has a ceremony unique to them. I meet with my clients at their home, if possible, to ensure the whole process is a stress free experience. I guide my clients through the whole process keeping things as simple as possible. As a thank you for my couples, I have a Unity Candle made commemorating their wedding day. They may choose to use this in a Candle Lighting Ceremony on the day if they wish.
2) From your experience, what type of couples search for your services? Who is your ideal/typical client?
Over the years I have married couples from all walks of life, of all ages and from many different places around this world. I can’t determine ‘the ideal couple’ as all couples are wonderful and unique and want different things from their wedding day. I have learnt many things from my couples but find they all want their day to be special.
3) How many weddings have you done? How many do you do a year?
I have done approx 90 weddings. The years differ with my first year having around 15 weddings to my last year having done 30.
4) What do you do best and enjoy most about being a wedding celebrant?
The most enjoyable thing about being a wedding celebrant is meeting so many fantastic couples.
5) Why do couples choose you over other celebrants? What do you think makes you stand out? In other words, what do couples get with you that they might not get with others?
Over the last 12 months I received the majority of my weddings as a result of referals or from couples who had been at weddings I had officiated at. I have a relaxed but professional attitude toward my work and find it incredibly important that my couples trust me to deliver what is promised. I try to make each ceremony very personal. I feel that guests leave the ceremony believing they were at that particular couples wedding ceremony, not ‘just another wedding’ ceremony. Making it so personal makes it an event that I find everyone remembers.
6) Can you describe a normal wedding day in your life as a wedding celebrant?
On a typical wedding day, I check that I have all of my paperwork and get my PA , stand and wedding table (if required) together. If it’s gloomy weather I will call the groom a few hours before to check that the location is still the same. I always read through the ceremony again before I leave. I arrive at the ceremony location 45 minutes prior to the start time to set up and be there for the groom if he needs any last minute nerve calming. I liase with the photographer and arrange for the music to be played through the PA system. A typical ceremony lasts between 15-25 minutes depending on how many rituals or readings have been chosen. Once the documents are signed, I officially introduce the bride and groom. Once the bride and groom and the guests have started their congratulations I pack up. Ensure the Marriage Certificate is left in safe hands and say goodbye to the couple.
7) Can you share your top tips to find the ideal wedding celebrant? What do couples need to look for?
The best way to find the right Celebrant is to meet with 2 or 3 who may have been recommended or you have found on some great wedding sites. All first meetings should be obligation free so this will give you time to decide on who will be best to guide you through the process of creating a ceremony for you. Never judge by the amount the celebrant charges. You should be guided by how comfortable you feel with someone. Trust your instincts.
8.) What’s your top 3 questions couples should ask prior to choose their celebrant?
Why do you think we should choose you as a celebrant?
How do you go about helping us create a unique ceremony?
Are there any extra charges involved above the quoted fee?
9) Trivial question… favorite wedding location?
I love ‘Glengariff Estate’ at Dayboro in QLD. Its gorgeous.
